Las Caletas
Las Caletas. This isolated spot of the southern coast
of the
Bay of Banderas is
only accessible by boat, since the land raises abruplty
from the coast into a lush forest. The
surroundings have remained virtually intact. The
beaches are waiting for you, with a hammock under a
shady palm tree, and beyond that, there is a whole tropical
world to discover.
Downtown
Puerto Vallarta
This is where most of the action takes place, between
the steep hills and the sea. Some of the traditional
red tile roofed houses in the downtown area are now
home to art galleries, clothing or handicraft stores.
The
most popular bars and discos are located on the pier.
The
modern Plaza de Las Armas boasts the
church of
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe , with its typical
crown and the modern City Hall, where the Tourist Office
is located. .
Marina Vallarta
After the old town, the boulevard goes through the
hotel zone and ends at Marina Vallarta. This independent
commercial and residential area, complete with a golf
course, is located just before the airport. Puerto
Vallarta and the
Bay of Banderas do
not end there, since the major coastal developments
are growing north in an area called Nuevo Vallarta.
Malecon
One of the most beautiful and traditional aspects of
Puerto
Vallarta can be found along the Malecón (Pier).
A daily walk at sunset or at night is always fun, interesting
and pleasant. The beauty of the sea side is impressive,
whereas the street side invites to visit its stores,
bars and restaurants. It is also the place to meet the
local population and mingle with them.
Whale watching
After swimming cold waters, the humpback whales look
for the tropical warmth of the
Puerto Vallarta coast to mate
and give birth. These cetaceans have amazed man for
years with their spectacular jumps and melancholic songs,
that are exclusive of the males.
The whale watching expeditions will bring you close
enough so that you can watch the mothers with their
calves, or the courtship jumps of a whale. Whether or
not you’re lucky to see a whale calf coming close
to your boat and let you pet it, we are sure this will
be a highly emotional and exciting experience.
